Mondays with Crosby

At 11:24 am, Crosby Fox turned 1 year and 35 weeks old!!! He was officially TWENTY months yesterday. I am not fond of this "twenty" business. We are very close to the age where you no longer refer to their age in months. It will just be years. And maybe you get to throw in a "half" in the middle. Nope. I don't like it. I can remember saying, "He is 5 days old." And then we got a few weeks to refer to his age in just those terms, "weeks". It has been "months" for more than a year and a half. I am not ready to go to "years". But who says they have at "25 month old"? Or a "72 month old"?" I guess I could start that trend! No one would think I am strange for doing so. Right? I would do just about anything to keep my boy a baby...

We had a first last week. Blake was gone for 4 and 1/2 days. He left Wednesday and came back last night. That meant I got to experience a smidgen of the life of a single mother. What a hard job that would be. It is one I do not envy. I say that, and I had a lot of help. Crosby spent time with Pop while I shopped at a consignment sale on Thursday. We both spent the night with Grammie and Pop on Friday night and Crosby stayed on through Sunday. I had a MILLION places to be on Sunday. Had I forced Crosby to tag along with me, he would have missed his nap. I can only imagine how ugly that would have been! Thankfully I didn't have to fight that battle.

We pulled into the driveway after Saturday lunch to find one large piece of equipment in Grammie and Pop's yard. Crosby eagerly waited as it approached...

He was in awe as it passed by...
Were his eyes deceiving him or did a farmer on a big, red tractor just wave at him as he passed by????
It finally sinks in..."Tractor!!! Tractor!!!"
We sat outside watching the tractor way off in the distance after breakfast. Little did I know it would still be going after lunch. That farmer sure did make Crosby's day!
Blake was off today. We took Crosby on a wagon ride (Nugs on a walk) down to a school playground. He did his share of swinging and sliding and climbing. But the mega fork lift sitting off to the side of the playground caught his eye as soon as we walked up. We just had to let him "drive"...

All he needs is a hard hat and he is ready to go...
Pretending will have to do for now...
I often comment that Crosby is fearless. I wonder why?

Do parents of girls encourage this behavior as well? It can't be a good thing...
Crosby was kind enough to share our (mine and Blake's, that is) cup of water with Nugget...
Don't worry. I quickly dumped the remaining water out of the cup. Although, he would have been more than happy to take a big gulp of Nugget's slobber. I preferred he just stick to his sippy cup from there on out!
The cat was running around the yard when we got home. I asked Crosby where she went. This was his "I don't know" response...
And I just had to share this one of ole Nugs. Look at that gray beard. That sweet (but bad sometimes) thing. I was pretty impressed with myself for getting the fly in the picture! I remember thinking, "He was going to eat that fly if it doesn't leave." He has done it before! Thankfully not today.
I will leave you with one of 2 videos I was supposed to post last week. I thought I saved an edited version, which was MUCH shorter. Apparently not. I apologize. You may want to skip the first 35 seconds, unless you want to hear my horrific version of the "ABC" song. Hey, he likes it! And then you will probably want to skip the good byes at the end, unless you are a grandparent. Even then, you may want to skip it!! :) We think he is going to be a genius...

But don't all parents think that about their children!?!? But ours, of course, is different... ;-)

We have two girls and encourage brave, daredevil (albeit monitored by us) behavior. We want them to climb and not be afraid to try new things. I think it's a good thing to do!!!
